A first Hijama appointment should begin with information, not pressure. You should know what is being proposed, have space to share relevant health information, and be able to ask questions before deciding whether to proceed.

Before the appointment

Follow the preparation guidance supplied with your confirmation. If anything is unclear, ask rather than relying on broad advice online. Tell the practitioner about health conditions, medicines, bleeding or skin concerns, pregnancy, and previous reactions to cupping.

Useful questions to bring

  • Which type of cupping is planned, and why?
  • Which areas are being considered?
  • What temporary marks or discomfort should I expect?
  • What aftercare will I receive?
  • When should I contact a healthcare professional?

During the session

Wet cupping generally involves suction followed by small superficial openings in the skin so a limited amount of blood enters the cup. You should receive an explanation before each step. Consent is ongoing: you can pause, ask a question, or decide not to continue.

After the session

Round skin marks are common and may take time to fade. Follow the aftercare guidance provided for your particular appointment. Seek medical advice for symptoms that worry you rather than assuming every reaction is a normal “detox” response.

Keep the evidence in perspective

Cupping is used in traditional medicine in several regions. Research exists, but the U.S. National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health says most studies are low quality. Hijama should not replace appropriate medical diagnosis or treatment.
